A Mom's Wonderful Memories

Fond Farewell From Wildcat Football Mom Betsy Miller

Betsy and the Miller BoysWith some sadness, the last of my two boys has finally made his college decision, preparations are underway for graduation and spending time with those families and friends I have made during the last six years at Centreville High School. Centreville football impacted both of my boys in very different ways but with the same results — my oldest son was initially resolute in his determination to not play football — my youngest son wickedly embraced the program when others didn’t think he could be successful — both of them found successes and failures along the way that ultimately made them more determined, resilient, and gave them a sense of purpose and drive. I credit the discipline and work ethic that make up the cornerstone of the Wildcat football program for giving both Colin and Brett the foundation to be successful students and athletes.

The CVHS football program is much, much more than 75 boys playing Friday nights. It is a fraternity of sorts, made up of families, coaches, and kids who all come together for a common goal: lead, work hard and the rest takes care of itself. While we did not win championships during our time at Centreville, the program did create a championship culture and championship kids. This thinking is something each player takes with them, whether they leave the gridiron after high school or continue on to compete at the next level.

I leave Centreville HS and its football program with some wonderful memories and friendships for a lifetime. It is my hope that my boys, in turn, will carry forward their own memories and friendships. I urge each of you who are continuing your journey with CVHS football to engage: you will reap so much more than you will ever give and you also teach your kids the value and importance of volunteering. It’s been a blast and I thank the coaching staff and all the other many people who have supported me and my boys these last six years, I will miss every one of you. I wish only continued success for all the current and future Wildcats!
