Shifting Gears
After 28 Years

Published November 15 2006

Coach Mike Skinner

After 28 years as a high school football coach, Mike Skinner has made the decision to retire as the head coach of the Centreville High School Wildcat football program. Smiles after the gameThe victory over Chantilly on November 10 was his grand finale as a head coach. While fans rushed to the field at the end of the game, Coach Skinner had a smile that stretched from ear-to-ear as he greeted fans, friends, and family.

Your Thoughts and Memories

His years at CVHS influenced many students, which was readily apparent by the number of football alumni that met Coach Skinner at the edge of the field. This is your opportunity to tell us about your memories and thoughts about Coach Skinner's years with the Wildcats.

The Skinner Years

His tenure in the program spanned 12 years with 8 in the head coach position. His years have seen a tremendous number of players progress to the college level, with one player recently drafted into the NFL by the Carolina Panthers. Coach Skinner's efforts were not entirely focused on the football field, as his influence on CVHS students helped them to learn the value of hard work and dedication. Coach Skinner expects to continue his relationship with the football program in the next few years.

While spending his time on the football field, Coach Skinner has been instrumental in boosting the success of Wildcat grads and the image of the CVHS football program. Under his leadership the first Wildcat Media Guide was created, as was this website, WildcatNation.org. Both publications reflect Coach Skinner's desire to give his players the recognition they deserve after year-round hard work for the football team. Not only have his efforts helped players, but they provide Wildcat football fans with easy access to the most important news and information about the teams.
