JV Zaps Edison 40 to 7

Cats Roast Eagles

Updated October 31 2005

Edison Eagles hosted the JV squad from Centreville on a cold and crispy Fall night. The Wildcat squad was an interesting blend of the JV roster and some JV alumni, playing with JV on this Varsity by-week. The blend was robust, as Centreville defeated Edison with a final score of 40 to 7.

The first quarter started quick, with the Eagles grabbing the kick-off but handing the ball over the Centreville on downs. Wildcats then ran the ball with power, and into the end zone as Chris Duble scored the first touch down of the evening. Wildcats attempted a 2-point conversion that was not successful. With six minutes and twenty seconds of time left in the first quarter, Centreville takes the lead 6 to 0.

Eagles take the ball from the kick and are pummeled by the Wildcat defense. Their quarterback attempts to move the ball, but is hit play after play. Edison punts the ball to Centreville, which begins a drive dominated by the run, and ending with a touch down. With two minutes and thirteen seconds left in the first quater, the Wildcat 2-point conversion was good to make the score 14 to 0. Eagles took possession of the ball and carried into the second quarter of play as Centreville maintained their lead.

The Wildcat offense tried the air attack in the second quarter, but to little success. They turn the ball over to Edison on downs, who then return the favor. Next drive the Centreville offense moves the ball on the ground, but a fumble ends up in the hands of the Eagles, with which they accomplish nothing. Again Wildcats take possession, and again Edison takes control with a recovered fumble. Eagles start a drive of running, both their offense and clock, as the first half ends with Centreville leading Edison, 14 to zero.

The second half begins with Centreville receiving the kick and running the ball. Five running plays in a row, then a beautiful, long pass down the field ending up on the ten yard line. A quick run to the one yard line, then Wayne Jackson carries the hand off from P.J. Dunegan into the end zone. The attempted 2-point conversion pass was incomplete, leaving the score at Wildcats 20, Eagles zero, with seven minutes and seven seconds still to play in the third quarter.

Centreville kicks the ball to the Eagles, who then rocket the return down the field and into the end zone. Jaws dropped as the extra point puts Edison on the scoreboard with 7 to Centreville's 20. We still have 6:51 left in the third and Wildcats know how to use that time. They keep the ball on the ground, and five plays later send it into the air. Dunegan's pass floats into the grasp of Chris Duble for another Wildcat touchdown. This time the 2-point conversion is successful and cranks the scoreboard up to 28 to 7, and plenty of time left in the third quarter as the clock displays 5:39.

Eagles take possession of the ball from Centreville's kick, and soon toss it into a Wildcat interception. Just as before, Wildcats carefully and powerfully move the ball down the field and into the end zone. The 2-point conversion missed on a slip, as the Wildcats extend their lead with a score of 34 to 7.

Edison take the ball, but soon hand it back to the Wildcats on downs. Centreville maintains control of the ball as play moves into the fourth quarter of the game. Wildcats end a fruitless drive returning the ball to the Eagles on downs, which leads to Centreville getting the ball again. This time things are different. Just two and a half minutes into the fourth quarter the Wildcats score another touchdown. Lack of the 2-point conversion leaves the score at 40 to 7, still favoring the Wildcats.

Centreville kicks the ball to Edison, who then dominate the clock with a long drive, running the ball through 13 plays, three first downs, and ending with a fumble gobbled-up by the Wildcats. With 53 seconds left in the game, Centreville maintains control of the ball and clock, successfully adding another victory to their record with a final score of 40 to 7.
