Freshmen Halt Hornets 55-7

Wrap It Up

Published November 5 2005

What a season the Freshmen squad just wrapped up. Week after week, in the heat, the pouring rain, and now in the chill of early November, the ’09ers crushed their opponents. This week it was Herndon that fell, with a score of 55 to 7.

The first half looked a lot like the previous week. Very quickly Centreville racked-up the points in the first half, completely punishing the Hornets. The first half ended with Wildcats firmly in the lead with a score of 41 to zero.

Herndon tweaked something during half time, because they scored their first touchdown after just 72 seconds of third quarter game time. The extra point was good pumping the score up to Centreville 41, Herndon 7.

No matter. Wildcats just dug-in a bit deeper, and regained control of momentum. They confidently moved the ball in their meticulous fashion. With three minutes and thirty four seconds left in the third quarter, they answered Herndon's 7-points with 7 of their own. A few plays later the third quarter ended with the score Centreville 48, Herndon 7.

You thought the third quarter started quickly. Fasten your seat belts, as Antonio Carter bursts into the end zone just 83 seconds into the fourth quarter. Ryan Carlson toes another extra point between the uprights to crank the score up to Centreville 55, Herndon 7. Here's an interesting twist—the cheerleaders devised a clever solution to avoid arm-fatigue from the way-crazy number of push-ups that were expected. They did jumping jacks! Clever idea. But the Wildcat fans weren't buying into the witty solution, and our girls received a bit of a razzing from the bleachers.

The remainder of the game moved fast. The teams clashed moving in both directions, but the end zones remained vacant. With about fifty seconds left in the game, Coach Blumer fell prey to the sneaky freshmen water-squad, as the boys snuck-up behind coach and drowned him with their Gatorade bottles. As the game clock ticked down to 0:00 with the score Centreville 55, Herndon 7, the Freshmen Wildcat squad want crazy celebrating another victory that clinched the district title.

The team huddled for the coaches chat, sang the (out loud, mind you) National Anthem before the JV game, and celebrated for some photos (see our gallery!). This was followed by Coach Blumer leading the boys in cheers for each of their coaches, then the entire team ran to the bleachers to cheer for their families and fans. These guys were so pumped-up about their success they could be heard cheering even well into the first quarter of the JV game. Nice to see, and hear, and huge congratulations to the players and coaches of the 2005 Wildcat Freshmen football team!
