Freshmen Ruin Rebels 34-21

Call It “The Streak”

Published October 21 2005

Looks like they can't be stopped. Centreville's Freshmen squad continues their winning streak with a spirited victory over the Fairfax Rebels and a final score of 34 to 21. The game started with Centreville firmly in command. But both teams had fire in the eyes after half time, as Fairfax began to battle back.

Wildcats owned the first half. The Centreville onslaught must have taken Fairfax by surprise, as they just could not match the Wildcat attack. By half time Centreville had outscored Fairfax 19 to 0.

Second Half

The second half of the game is where things get interesting. All you need now is the edge of your seat. The first response by Fairfax was just a couple minutes into the quarter. It was third down, and the Rebels were encountering tremendous resistance from the Wildcat defense. Then a break away run by Fairfax takes them into the end zone. The extra point was good changing the score to 19 to 7, still in Centreville's favor.

Oh, Yeah? Take This…

Wildcats are shaking their heads a bit as Fairfax kicks the ball back into play. Quan Davis grabs the ball and zips 80 yards for a Wildcat touchdown. The extra point failed, but what a nice way to respond to the previous Rebel effort. Now the scoreboard says 25 to 7, still for Centreville.

The Wildcat momentum continues. with 4:09 still left in the third quarter, Justin Conway kicks-in the afterburners for a 52 yard run into the end zone. No extra point, but the score is still pumped-up to 31 to 7.

Rebels seem to be losing some steam, as their next possession is confidently stopped by the Wildcats. Centreville takes over the ball on downs, and the Wildcat offense continues to work their magic. Even with a 24-point lead, Centreville never stops trying. Wildcats send the ball up into the air and a leaping Alan Park grabs the ball and falls square on his back - nice catch! That ends the third quarter with the score still 31 to 7 for Centreville.

The fourth quarter begins with some struggle in the Wildcat passing game. After three incomplete passes it's time for a field goal attempt. Ryan Carlson boots the ball cleanly between the uprights and the score up to 34 to 7.

But it ain't over yet.

Fairfax busts a hole in the Centreville defense and runs the ball 51 yards for a touchdown. With 5 minutes and 30 seconds remaining in the game, they run for a 2-point conversion, with success. Now the score is Wildcats 34, Rebels 15. Someone's knockin' on the door - don't let 'em in!

Centreville's next possession was fruitless, as they failed to add points to the board. The Fairfax defense is really getting fired-up. But time is now the Rebel's enemy, as they try to make something happen. They do. Fairfax drives the ball down the field and into the end zone for another touchdown. Their attempt for extra points is not good, and the score is now 34 to 21. But there is just one more thing. Only 30-seconds remain on the clock. It's difficult to imagine what miraculous efforts would allow 13 points to be scored in 30-seconds. Nothing happens to enhance our imagination, as the clocks ticks away to zero leaving the final score of Wildcats 34, Rebels 21.
