Freshmen Handle Chantilly 14-7
Surviving the Charge
Published September 16 2005
Freshmen Wildcats effectively handle the Chantilly Chargers with a final score
of 14 to 7. The air was thick as both teams took the field at Trussell Stadium.
The Wildcat defense built a wall around Chantilly, preventing success and allowing
the Centreville offense to complete the first half with a score of 7 to 0.
Centreville continued to dominate in the second half, as they scored half-way through the third quarter. The third quarter ended with the Wildcats in the lead with a score of 14 to 0.
The first 12 seconds of the fourth quarter got interesting. It was fourth down for the Wildcats and they were set to punt. The kick was low, entered the crowd of players on the scrimmage line, bounced off the head of a Wildcat and back towards the end zone. Chantilly grabbed the ball in the skirmish and crossed the goal line for a touchdown. That was weird. After a flag, Chargers found a successful extra point and replaced their zero with a 7 on the scoreboard. That was just the first 12 seconds of the quarter! We still have 9:48 left in the game.
Wildcats regrouped and worked to dominate the rest of the fourth quarter. The running game was struggling against Chantilly, as Centreville was not able to cross the goal line. Since the score was in their favor, they used the clock to secure victory with a final score of 14 to 7.
