Wildcat Football 2006
A Mom’s Perspective
Published December 8 2005 by Betsy Miller
As I stand here in subfreezing temperatures at the University of Maryland Byrd
Stadium I reflect back on my son Colin’s years of football: Wildcat
Football. It’s been an adventuresome ride, riddled with uncertainty
(mostly mine) about what the future holds for not only my son but the sons
of the other Senior Moms that made up the nucleus of our small community
of student-athletes.
My
pictures can only tell so much as I, today, watch
these elite area athletes posing for pictures, telling their stories as only
they can and, finally, stopping to throw snowballs at those players that
just a short time ago were adversaries on the field and now—well now
they’re just boys—very large boys! I think this is part of the
passage of time and I suspect that next year’s class will be equally
talented and have the same fears and anxieties as this Class of 2006. But
I am also confident that they too, after answering the endless questions
about their future, will just throw snowballs.
