Centreville
Wildcats took care of business on Saturday afternoon with a victory over the
winless Chantilly Chargers, 41 to 0. The sky was blue, the sun was bright,
and the game was over in less than two hours. Wildcats wanted that victory,
played hard to get it, and successfully clinched a berth in the region playoffs.
The game started with Chantilly winning the coin toss. That was the last thing they won. Wildcats defense and special teams stormed the Chargers throughout the first half, forcing fumbles, miscues, and intercepting Chantilly passes. Then the Wildcat offense focused on the end zone.
Chantilly could not stop the Wildcat air attack. The frustrated Chargers watched Centreville score touchdown after touchdown—on the ground and in the air. The turf of Trussell Stadium also felt the pain of battle, as just one side of the field saw any action in the second quarter. The ball did not enter Wildcat territory until the very end of the second quarter. And the field was beat to a muddy pulp.
Scoring in the first half ended with a Drew Dudzik pass to Cam Dohse for a squeaker of a touchdown, just inside the corner of the end zone. A crisp two-point conversion in the air followed the touchdown for a score of 41 to 0.
The second half was scoreless for both sides of the field. Grinding through the mud continued by both teams, but the end zones caught a break.
The sun was setting on Trussell Stadium just as the Wildcats forced the sun to set on the Chantilly season with a final score of 41 to 0. The Wildcats handled the overwhelming victory with class and style. Never did they flaunt their dominance with trash talk or gloating. Centreville can be proud of the team, their performance, and their attitude. Congratulations Wildcats on a great victory and entering the playoffs!
