Looking Back: Wildcat Drew Dudzik QB for JMU Dukes

It does not seem that long ago when dual threat QB Drew Dudzik was lighting things up on Friday nights for the Wildcats…today he is making a difference for the JMU Dukes.  Drew is remembered as the QB who could always hit his mark and able to scramble in the pocket.  He was All District, All Region, Rivals Top 30 Virginia and threw for 2000 yards and 24 TDs - running 500 yards for 10 TDs.  Some of you may have seen Drew’s famous somersault into the endzone in last fall’s Sports Illustrated.  You Tube has the video:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3CxW4W1si40.  Keep an eye out for Drew as he starts his Junior year at JMU.

Outstanding Performance Recognized At Senior Awards Ceremony

Varsity Senior Mike Upham received the CVHS Health & Physical Education Medallion at the CVHS Senior Awards Night - it is one of the few awards permitted to be worn with his cap and gown on graduation day.  Coach Pannoni stated   ”As a three year starter on the Varsity Football team our award winner received an athletic and academic scholarship to Monmouth University.  As a junior and senior he was ranked #1 in the Northern Region Powerlifting Championships at 249 LBS, lifting over a combined weight of 1300 LBS.  He has consistently been the hardest working most dependable student in the Personal Fitness and Weight Training class, throughout his 4 years at Centreville High School.
He is a quality young man who was also on the Wildcat Leadership Council, as well as off season captain and in season captain both his junior and senior years.  I highly recommend Mike Upham as a Wildcat Medallion Award Winner.  He is a tremendously deserving young man.”

David Wisda (Virginia Tech) was also recognized for his outstanding achievement by recieving the CVHS Math Medallion.   David will also be able to wear his medallion with his cap and gown on graduation day.  Salute to both Mike and David on their outstanding achievement and recognition.

Luke Bowanko (UVA) and Zack Glatter (Princeton) were also recognized for their scholarships to play football.

CATS Take Second Place in the Passing Tournament - May 31, 2009

On Sunday, May 31st, the Wildcat football team participated in a 7 on 7 passing tournament with seven other teams at Falls Church High School.  They had a rough early morning game on a waterlogged field that ended in a loss.  They quickly put that loss behind them and defeated each of the other teams in succession, gaining experience and confidence in each game, and earning a spot in the afternoon tournament.  Their winning streak continued and made their way into the championship game against T.C. Williams.  The CATS took second place in the tournament with a score of 24-22.  An excellent showing by the Wildcats!

Future Hokie and Senior Wildcat David Wisda Receives Scholarship From National Football Foundation

Senior Wildcat OT David Wisda at NFF Banquet

Senior Wildcat OT David Wisda at NFF Banquet

Senior Wildtcat OT David Wisda joins alumni Wildcat Darryl Hamilton as one of the few selected each year as a recipient of the National Football Foundation Scholarship.   David was awarded a $1,000 scholarship at the National Capital Region Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame annual High School Scholar-Athlete banquet held on March 29.  David was one of only 16 finalists from the Metro area who were nominated and accepted into the Hall of Fame at Notre Dame University.   His advanced curriculum and accomplishment of a  4.06 GPA, performance as a Centreville offensive lineman, as well as community service and activities outside of school were key to the selection process.  This past December, David was one of the few accepted into the outstanding Virginia Tech School of Engineering.  David plans to play rugby for the VT rugby club.  Look for David on the pitch behind Lane Stadium as they battle USNA, Ohio State and other worthy apponents.  Check out the VT rugby website at http://www.vtrugby.com/.
